Fabrications

Kyah Halitta strives on being an eco-conscious brand; however, every fabric has sustainability benefits and disadvantages. Kyah Halitta takes every fabric into consideration when designing, and makes sure that the fabrications are contributing to our journey of being as sustainable as we can be.

Linen

Linen is a natural fiber, grown from the flax plant. Minimal resources are used through the production of Linen, and the plant has the ability to grow in poor soil, that cannot be used for food production. The Flax plant has a high rate of carbon absorption as well as the need for fewer pesticides, fertilizers, and water in comparison to other plant-based fabrications. Due to linen being a plant-based fabric, it is biodegrable.

Silk

Silk is made from silkworms and is considered a protein fiber. Silk is biodegradable as if is made from a natural formation, however, the silkworms get boiled in the production, killing the worm inside the cocoon. The filament is long allowing the end result fabric to have a sheen and the silky feeling we all know. The most sustainable version of silk is raw silk, where once the moth breaks through the cocoon the remaining fibre is spun into shorter filaments; this way does not have the silky sheen.

Hemp

Hemp is one of the fastest-growing plants and does not need high amounts of water, pesticides, or fertilizers for growth.  This plant is grown in the same area for many years without exhausting its soil and is biodegradable. Hemp produces 2 times the amount of cotton in the same amount of space and uses 50% less water.

Cupro

Cupro is a plant-based fibre that is made from Linter Cotton, also known as cotton waste. In order to turn the wastage into fabrication, the fibre is soaked in a chemical bath called cuprammonium. The chemicals used a safe from toxic and dangerous compounds for people and the environment. Due to the number of chemicals and water used in the production of Cupro, these resources are used over and over to create less wastage. Cupro is also a biodegradable fabric.

Rayon & Viscose

Rayon and Viscose are fibres from regenerated cellulose, generally derived from wood pulp. To produce the fiber, the plant cellulose goes through a process involving chemicals.. Rayon and Viscose are biodegradable fabrications.

Ramie and Stinging Nettle

Ramie and stinging nettle, or European nettle, are plants used to produced a fiber similar to linen. They are not very common but they are considered sustainable.
